A very quick camera test to show the quality between the mobile phones about. The photo is a crop of a photo taken at the same time from each phone. Unedited.

  1. The iPhone picture is several times worse in my opinion. I would have thought the iPhone 3GS would have had better picture quality considering they usually cost more and that people swear by the quality of Apple hardware.

    • Don’t forget the iPhone 3GS only has a sensor of 3.2 Megapixels, compared to 8.1 of the X10i and Arc. I think all things considering it does quite well.

Read this, before you are talking about high-res images on mobiles:

Long story short: The size of the sensor is nearly the same, depending on the size of the phone. Raising resolution does not always bring an advantage. If Apple was using high quality sensors, pictures would probably be much better.

    • I agree with you Christian. But don’t forget I am comparing a 3.2mp iPhone 3GS to a Sony X10i, Arc with 8MP sensor, high quality or not will always look poor in comparison. To be a fair test I would have to compare the 3GS to other phones with 3.2mp. I think the sensor Apple use is quite good. If you look at photos taken with a Nokia 5800 for example, which is also 3.2mp and has Zeiss optics. The iPhone 3GS is superior.

  3. I take all my photos using x10i camera and let’s say it it’s picture quality is much better as compared to their competition.
Did you really take above pic from x10i, if it is then you have got your camera settings wrong?

    • I did use a real genuine x10i and I found the photos it took very good. Compared to the Arc its not as good as you can see. Try taking a photo using your x10i and another camera phone. The photos will look very good. Now try to zoom into sections and only when you scrutinise the photo does the x10i show its negatives.
