How to: Access the PS3 recovery menu

Accessing the PS3 recovery menu is easy and fix a multitude of errors that you may initial think are hardware faults. I have used it successfully to fix problem loading games, playing films and corrupted hard drives.

To access the Recovery Menu (Tested on Firmware 3.01) try the following:

  1. Turn off the Playstation 3 so that the red light is on
  2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and off again
  3. Hold the power button down again until you hear two consecutive beeps
  4. When you hear the two consecutive beeps, take your finger off the power button
  5. If everything is successful you will be prompted to plug in a controller
  6. Plug in your controller and press the PS button
  7. You are now in the Recovery Menu

  2. Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings to default
  3. Restore File System: Checks for corrupt and missing system files
  4. Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the Playstation 3 OS
  5. Restore PS3 System: Deletes everything
  6. System Update: Allows you to update the Firmware Via USB
